2019

Adrian Dzvuke

There's already quite a buzz around singer/songwriter/producer Adrian Dzvuke.

It was only around a year ago that he started performing regularly around his hometown of Perth, Western Australia, as well as releasing tracks online to major acclaim.

Equally at home, onstage with his band or in the studio, his soulful mixture of R&B and Afrobeats has been gaining fans at every show and with every release.

2019 is shaping up to be a big year for Adrian, kicking off with a support slot for POND's Perth show, and sharing the bill with acts like Kevin Parker and Triple One.

With his first single of the year, ‘Confidence’ receiving attention from Apple Music Australia, Beats 1 Radio, French publication IGGY Magazine and international radio, Adrian is eager to keep the momentum rolling with some big releases in the pipeline.

Adrian Eagle

After garnering widespread acclaim for his breakout singles 17 Again and AOK, as well as his guest appearance on the legendary Hilltop Hoods ARIA Award winning single Clark Griswold, a sincere rendition of Ocean Alley’s ‘Confidence' for Like A Version, and a massive national and international touring schedule, it has been a landmark couple of years for emerging Adelaide bred singer-songwriter Adrian Eagle.

An outlier in today’s modern music industry, Adrian is finding success in being himself, and embracing his honesty and vulnerability.

"hopeful, life-affirming music: sunshine-infused gospel that promises – and goes some way to convincing you – that everything will be okay. Eagle’s soaring voice is the focal point, but the messaging is what stands him apart." – The Guardian

"Armed with an imitable voice, a tireless work ethic, stunning performance style, and mesmerising lyrics, it’s no secret that he’s set to be one of Australia’s biggest artists in no time."– Tone Deaf

The Southern River Band

In a world where starting off a biography with "In a world where" is the norm, The Southern River Band are apparently no different. In the very same world, where labeling oneself is encouraged, where being able to describe one’s style is expected, The Southern River Band neither know, nor care how to fit themselves into these pigeonholes. Head south on Perth's so-called "Freeway", jump on Roe Highway, hang a right on Nicholson Road, go through the busiest roundabout in Australia, and you'll find yourself in Thornlie, the home of The Southern River Band. A country town in the heart of the suburbs, where the jukeboxes stock very little other than the very same songs you would've heard reverberating out of them in 1970's. They say you're a product of your surroundings, who are "they"? Nobody knows. But, they're not far wrong. You're bound to find one of the boys recycling their spare change, putting on 'Come Back Again' for the 3rd time in the space of 4 hours on any given Friday arvo.”

“These boys don’t fuck around, Cal Kramer is possibly the best front man in Australia” X-Press Mag (AUS)

An enigma

Gauci

Of the track, Gauci share, “In The Night is a song about second chances and fading relationships. When the endorphins of first love fade away and reality bites. It’s a pumping club friendly pop anthem that showcases a new direction for us. The production is bigger, badder and is a reflection of our love of a truly good pop song.”

Gauci are Antonia Gauci (Producer/Engineer, Leftenent), David Gauci (Las Vagueness, Death Bells) and surrogate brother Felix Lush (Felix Lush, Publique) making smooth Italo Disco, blending synths and charming pop melodies.

Gazey

Energetic, virtuosic, sensitive and compelling are just some words to describe Perth 5-piece synth outfit Gazey.

Brought together in late 2017 through a mutual love of 1970’s and early 80’s production, the band crafts impeccably arranged progressive synth and lo-fi tunes that call to mind the timeless sounds of ELO and Yes as well as contemporary trailblazers Toro Y Moi and Blood Orange.

With an unwavering commitment to delivering compelling live performances, Gazey has gigged relentlessly over the past 12 months including supporting local luminaries Demon Days and Boat Show and playing a packed out showcase for WAMFest 2018.

Gazey’s forthcoming debut LP will be released in 2019 through Group Therapy Records.

Harvey Sutherland

Harvey Sutherland is a producer, DJ and funk synthesist from Melbourne. After steadily making a name for himself amongst Australia’s bubbling electronic underground, Mike Katz began to make international waves in 2013 with a series of successful 12” records under his nom de plume. Blending a broad array of crate-digging influences, his initial EPs have already been championed by international tastemakers like Gilles Peterson, Jamie xx, Disclosure and The Black Madonna. Sold-out shows with his impeccable live band followed around the world – including Glastonbury Festival, Nuits Sonores and London’s Jazz Cafe – alongside some unique side-projects: Harvey recently performed an original cinematic disco suite alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, as well as directing an Australian tour with an 11-piece band in support of New York disco icon Leroy Burgess.

From the time Harvey Sutherland began making music, he was influenced by dance music, but not comfortable inside its rules. Still rooted in soul, disco and funk, the modern techno universe was not exactly where he fit – and so Harvey Sutherland instead sought to create a world of his own.

Jack Davies & The Bush Chooks

After years of busking and performing solo, he recruited a few friends to form The Bush Chooks, an electrified take on his former folk tales. Just a year after forming, Jack Davies and The Bush Chooks were nominated for three WAM awards, including best single, and won Nannup Music Festival’s Emerging Artist Award.

Released in late 2018, their debut single "Vegemite Sandwich" is a joyous, slow builder with rambling lyrics and dreamy guitar lines. Their follow up release "Rosemary Mushrooms" cemented Jack's reputation for witty, self reflective story telling and powerful lyricism - "A ramshackle Beaut" - Declyn Byrne, Triple J.

May 2019 saw them release their Debut EP "Cleaning The Dishes", to a sold out mini festival hosted in their home town of Fremantle. It is a collection of hard hitting folk rock, and soothing melodic rambles. Renowned for their energetic and authentic live gigs, don't miss out on catching them on stage!"

Karin Page

With a musical style that effortlessly blends sounds of blues, roots and country, acclaimed singer songwriter Karin Page takes inspiration for her song writing from everything around her. She has been working tirelessly on music for her debut album ‘Walk Away’ to create songs that are a true reflection of her nomadic lifestyle and restless spirit.

‘Box’ - featuring Ash Grunwald on guest vocals, is the first taste of that new music and is a powerful song with a sassy feel that encourages you to be yourself and draws you in from the opening beat. It’s a song for those who don’t want to be pigeonholed in any aspect of their life.

Karin’s music crosses many genres. The evolution of her music – featuring authentic lyrics and melodies – has led Karin to the unique space she finds herself in today; being herself, and being content with that.

RTRFM Sunday Morning Coming Down

Jas Hughes:

Jas Hughes has been presenting at RTRFM for the better part of the last decade. You can mainly find her on the Drivetime slot, most recently on a Tuesday, but she has also managed to wrangle her way on to the very elite team of Sunday Morning Coming Down substitutes. Outside the studio she can sometimes be found popping up behind the decks for such events as PIAF, Fringe or your friend’s local art show opening. A drunken Dave Cullen once claimed she was his favourite D.J (do not ask him about this, he may not remember). She is ready to ease you into your Sunday morning with some laid-back tunes, inevitably including Our Lady of Perpetual Cool Bonnie Raitt – it is a Sunday morning after all.

Justine Dandy:

A lover of diverse music genres, Justine has long wanted to master the art of the perfect mix tape and thought presenting a radio show might be the ticket. Volunteering at RTRFM created the opportunity and she completed the presenters’ course in 2008, followed by a few crazy early morning stints on Snooze button. She graduated to Saturday Rewind/Replay, Morning Magazine and Rockin the Roots before finding a more permanent home on Sunday Morning Coming Down. In her ‘real’ life Justine teaches and does research in psychology.

Senegambian Jazz Band

Featuring an internationally renowned lineup that traverses The Gambia, Senegal, Ethiopia, Ghana and Australia, the Senegambian Jazz Band channels over eight thousand years of African musical traditions, transporting the power and beauty of these ancient sounds, rhythms and melodies to euphoric audiences across Australia.

Fronting the seven-piece band is the phenomenally talented Amadou Suso, direct descendent of the world’s first kora player, Koriang Musa Suso. As a music maker, or ‘jali’ by birthright, Amadou embodies the griot traditions of the Mandinka of West Africa. Known widely as the 'Jimi Hendrix of the kora', Amadou fulfils his ancestral duties to share the culture of his people through an intoxicating contemporary mastery of the African harp.

Complementing the band's sublime kora-led melodies are the formidable percussive talents of Boubacar Gaye, from Senegal, on the djembe and congas, and Julius Sackey, from Ghana, on drum kit. World-class musicians in their own right, Boubacar and Sackey harness the rhythms of West Africa, providing the irresistible foot-stomping drum beats that see fans losing themselves in the music and dancing the night away.

Linking in on bass is mainstay of the international Ethio-music scene, Yoseph Bekele. With his skillful grasp of the group's polyrhythmic elements, Yoseph seamlessly connects the band's harmony and groove, adding his own unique Ethio-jazz flavour. Add to the mix the soulful strains of Tom Benson on sax and the slicing electric guitar solos of Luke Koszanski, and the Senegambian Jazz Band is ready to enchant global audiences with an elaborate and joyful sound that is paving the way for a new African jazz genre

SJ will take a new single on the road once more in July, August and September, playing their biggest rooms to date. Onwards and upwards!

Sunshine Brothers

The Sunshine Brothers are Australia’s premium purveyors of tropical dub/roots/ska music.
They are the wild bunch from the sweet spot of the Australian music scene – Perth, Western Australia – where the sun shines, the beer is cold and outsiders thrive.
The Brothers all played in thrash, pop, indie rock, funk, hip-hop and soul bands throughout the 80’s and 90’s in the Perth scene which spawned the Scientists, Hoodoo Gurus, The Stems and many more Fender loving freaks but found an even more rebellious and adventurous home when they first rolled the Sunshine Brothers good times tour bus out of the garage and into the beaches, deserts and cities of Australia.
Operating consciously outside the expectations of the music business The Sunshine Brothers live and perform in the moment and only do what feels right and where they can capture and amplify the power and spirit of good people and good times.
