Over three days and nights Wave Rock Weekender features a line-up of about 20 Australian and international music acts; feature films and documentaries; cheap food and drinks; a 50m round, 6m deep therapeutic salt pond where you can float like a cork without moving a muscle; incredible rock walks; some of Australia’s best stargazing; and of course the authentic Aussie bush.
Producers of the Wave Rock Weekender, aim to build soulful events for artists, patrons and staff that we can all enjoy and look forward to each year.
Experiences like Wave Rock are designed to get you out of dodge and take you on an adventure that connects you properly with friends, music, cinema and like minded people in intimate and inspirational locations.
A quality blend of holiday, adventure, festival, party, pub, nature, escape and rest…….totally sweet times!
Wave Rock Weekender is…
An authentic all-weekend, long-weekend experience.
An 18+ event. Australian photo ID is required for entry. Please don’t bring children.
An intimate show set in and around the Wave Rock Caravan Park and Resort, that we take over for the weekend.
A place where toilets, showers, food and bar access are never a problem.
A place where camping is high brow (dry, clean and you are close to food, bar, light, power, bins, facilities, film and music).
Not an English country garden festival or sports oval event – it’s in beautiful salty, scrubby, bushy Australia on the edge of the desert featuring; prehistoric rock formations, eerie salt plains, shiny salmon gums, wildflowers and big, big sky.
The greatest weekend of our year!
FESTIVAL GOALS
We just want to have a good time. We want great, authentic arts experiences. We want to get off the highway. We want shows to be small enough that we can recognise one another. We don’t want to live on the internet or mobile phones; we want to live in real life!
Traditional Owners
After the sad passing of Mr Collard last year (elder of the Collard family and our traditional custodian/elder/family contact on cultural matters for Hyden since 2005), numerous new voices came forwards seeking to contribute to the cultural discussions around Wave Rock and the weekender.
In response to these voices being raised, and to be sure we have the most robust, respectful and informed cultural policy possible, we have deepened our consultation for 2025 and are excited to be working in partnership with Ballardong Aboriginal Corporation as our official cultural guides and partners for the event.
The Ballardong Aboriginal Corporation is one of six Noongar regional corporations established as part of the South West Native Title Settlement in 2021 with a CEO appointed in late 2023.
Check them out www.ballardong.org.au
As always, our event cultural policies are dynamic and responsive to advice from our cultural partners and we will keep you informed of any changes as they happen so we can continue to provide you with the information you need to ensure we can operate a respectful event in this beautiful area.
We expect to be able to publish our revised policy in August soon aft our final meeting with the Ballardong Aboriginal Corporation cultural advisory committee.
COMMUNITY GOALS
We want to contribute to the Hyden community, and bring together city people and country people. We helped with some local tree planting in 2010, and we’d like to develop other community cultural development projects involving Wave Rock Weekender punters and local people. We’ll see if we can get something together this year.
ENVIRONMENTAL GOALS
Soul Highway is committed to the development of environmentally sustainable events, starting with the Wave Rock Weekender. We learn a lot along the way, and try to improve our performance every year.
Broadly, these are our environmental objectives:
To deliver events that have a very low or neutral environmental impact by using less stuff and employing sustainable practices and technologies wherever possible;
To introduce and promote sustainable ways of doing things to festival patrons; and
To leave a legacy of sustainable practice in the host town.
We’re open to suggestions.
