MUSIC  & PROGRAMME

MUSIC

As usual we aren’t trying to be anything in particular so we ignore online stats, Pitchfork, JJJ and the rest and we actually go and see and listen to music through the year to find great stuff that we think is diverse, high quality and interesting so we will definitely deliver a weekend full of good times, good people and good things. Expect old and new, discoveries and favourites, good and great bands.
This year on the main stage we feature pop, rock and roll, blues, boogie, hip-hop, electronic, country, folk, calypso, psych, jazz, r and b, and world music. Discover the main stage line-up and links to tracks/facebook below..
We also have deep cosmic music at Wave Rock with visuals (late Saturday and Sunday night), the Discotruque miniature nightclub with DJ legend Charlie Bucket running a tropical beach party (late Sat/Sun night) and the Speakeasy with your hosts Blind Tiger Boogie Box and Nathan J playing old time sizzlers from their epic selection of 45’s alongside the open fire, hot drinks, toast, whisky and cigars (late Sat/Sun night). We also introduce our first mobile ‘stage’ – it is the Wave Rock lizard bus – a free shuttle bus with a huge lizard on the roof that runs from the camp ground to the Salt Pond between 10am and 2pm where you get paid to ride. As well as a shorter walk you receive a song performed by your host drivers who happen to be two of Australia’s best singer songwriters – Leah Senior (Victoria/Flightless Records) and/or Jim Lawrie (Victoria/Remote Control records).

FILM & VISUALS

As usual our film guru has been hand selecting major, indie and homemade movies from Australia and around the world to keep our cinema bus screen rolling all weekend.
Themes around music, the desert, the environment, community, DIY and craftivism dominate and feel just right out there on the edge of the outback.
We also have TUPLA projecting visuals on the rock with a cosmic soundtrack late night Saturday and Sunday.

ACTIVITIES

If you like staying active or actively relaxing we have a good mix of stuff to do including swimming/floating in the super salty gypsum salt pond, dancing, cock rock aerobix (pic above), morning yoga (Sat/Sun morning), freestyle and marked bush walks, rock scrambling, cycling, heavy petting and massage. Bring telescopes/binoculars/cameras/painting and drawing stuff as required if you like photography, birds, wildflowers, astronomy, drawing or painting – Hyden is one of the best areas in Australia for all these things.

WHISPER (QUIET) CAMP ANNOUNCEMENT

We’re pleased to let the nanas and grandads among you know that this year we will be trialling a quiet camp a little bit away from the main site for people who like a bit of hush.

Yes to cups of tea, crocheted blankets, and early morning walks; no to wild parties, raucous love-making, and extreme snoring.

The location is the new ‘Collinseum’ Amphitheatre, due to open later in the year, just behind the Wave Rock Resort cottages, near the salt pond you know and love, about 1km from the Wave Rock Caravan Park.  There are toilets but no showers (use main site facilities), and we will arrange some basic site lighting so you can find your way around.  If you can bring your bike out, it will give you quicker access to the other show areas from there.

Any colour Friday Pass or Weekend Pass can be exchanged for an equivalent Whisper Camp Friday or Weekend Pass.  Please email info@soulhighway.com.au and let us know which colour camp you’re moving from, and on which day you’ll arrive, to get yourself on the Whisper Camp list.  You must be registered to camp there.  Spaces are limited, and we ask that you only choose this camp if you are capable of remaining sedate before, during and after drinking booze.  Ask your friends if you are unsure.

Check in times are limited for this camp.  Come through the main check point and let greeters know you are headed for Whisper Camp.  Camp monitors Fay and Robyn will be available from 4PM to 7PM on Friday and 11AM to 3PM on Saturday to welcome you and assist you to park and set up.  Fay is also teaching yoga at the airport, halfway between the main site and Whisper Camp on Saturday and Sunday mornings.  More details in our final email to all ticket-holders just before the show.

WAVE ROCK WEEKENDER 2016 11th EDITION ON SALE NOW!

Hello good people!!
In a year where election campaigns can make you feel like you are living inside a dystopian novel and it seems impossible to get government policies that favour people and the planet over money it is an absolute relief and total pleasure to be able to know that we can once again spend a weekend away from the madness with a bunch of great people in late September in one of our favourite places on earth. If there was ever a place to stop touching your phone, see the goodness in people, and remember there is actually hope for humanity then the Wave Rock Weekender deep in the WA bush is it for us.
The good news is that tickets for the WAVE ROCK WEEKENDER 2016 event will be available from today.

As usual capacity is limited to the same sweet spot we know and love and we’ll keep the event information as quiet as possible for now so people in the know can sort themselves out first.
Once again we take over the entire site Friday night so you all have the option to enjoy an extra night to settle in with access to the main bar, food vendors and some main stage action.
For those who partake in the Friday frivolities you will not only enjoy an extra-long, long weekend but you can wake up Saturday with two full days and full nights left to be wild and free.
There’ll be the usual great range of well-priced premium quality food and booze, the cinema, the salt pond, our prehistoric granite friend Wave Rock, the late night speakeasy, yoga, some cheeky new elements and of course some glorious music. As usual we’ll reveal the bands and the finer details quite close to the event when the tickets have sold but expect only the highest quality local, national and international artists performing at the time of day where their music feels the best. What we know so far is that good times will be had, new friends will be made, old friends will reunite, new favourite bands will be found and laughs, romance, chats, baby making, marriage proposals, good people, nature, food, booze will all be in the mix too as always.Joe 1 small

10th Anniversary Edition ON SALE NOW!

Yes folks!! Number 10 is here and we are going to try and make it super special to celebrate the sweet, sweet ride we have had over these last ten years.Rock at night

Tickets for the WAVE ROCK WEEKENDER 2015 event will be available from today to our regulars and their friends.
As usual capacity is limited to just the right amount and we’ll keep the event as secret as possible so people in the know can sort themselves out and be guaranteed the best of times.
The best news of all is that we have decided to take over the entire site Friday night so you now all have the option to enjoy an extra night to settle in with access to the main bar, food vendors and main stage action.
This means you can not only enjoy an extra-long, long weekend but you can wake up Saturday with two full days and full nights to get loose and be free as only this event lets you be.
There’ll be the usual great range of well-priced premium quality food and booze, the cinema, the salt pond, our prehistoric granite friend Wave Rock, the late night speakeasy, yoga, some new elements and of course THE MUSIC!
The programme this year is coming together like a total dream and already features amazing artists from Canada, Iceland, Spain, Australia and more which we will reveal a couple of weeks out.
As always you can expect only the highest quality local, national and international artists who will be placed at the time of day where their music feels the best.
Expect discoveries, rediscoveries, favourites and surprises and we will of course try to blow your minds and introduce you to your new favourite artists across the weekend.

Wave Rock Weekender 2014 wrap-up, thanks & after party details for this Friday.

Good people of the Wave Rock Weekender 2014!
Wow!! What a weekend the 2014 instalment was. This simple formula of putting great people and great music and stuff in a great location just keeps on bringing out the absolute best in you people and we couldn’t be happier than to witness it all. The great moments and good times we saw happen at the rock, the salt pond, the speakeasy, the cinema, the nightclub, the camp, the bar and the stage will keep us buzzing and smiling for weeks – hopefully for 51 weeks – until we can do it all again. We love this weekend and we love you guys and you are clearly pretty good at loving each other so let’s do it again sometime. Send us your photos!!!!
THANKS!
To all the patrons, the artists, the staff, the volunteers, the suppliers, the great people of Hyden and the vendors – thank you so much for making this event feel the way it does and be what it is.
Thanks for being good to each other, respecting the place and letting your hair down in just the right way. It is an absolute privilege to put on this event for and with all you people and we cannot wait to pull together something totally incredible for you for number 10! Put Sep 25-28 in your diary – we’d love to see you again!!!
AFTER PARTY THIS FRIDAY AT DEVILLES!
While we are all still glowing from our time in the bush we’d love to see your happy faces again this Friday night at Devilles for the Wave Rock after party.
All the staff and local bands will be there with all the usual Devilles shenanigans as well as sets by two of bands who played the Wave Rock Weekender last year to sizzle up the joint with boogie juke joint blues

CHRIS RUSSELL’S CHICKEN WALK (Vic) and HUGE MAGNET (WA). Tickets $15 on door (or presale)

SPECIAL OCCASIONS & WALPOLE WEEKENDER UPDATE
We have a couple of totally amazing special occasions in the pipeline for the next few months.
We are still working hard getting a site up for a Walpole Weekender and hope to have a 200 capacity site-warming Walpole Weekender over Easter 2015 before unleashing a fully fledged Easter weekender in 2016.
